The Sandy River Valley Chapter (SRVC) of the Maine Genealogical Society (MGS) was not officially organized until December of 1978 and received its MGS Charter in 1979. However, individuals from this area were instrumental in forming the MGS in 1976 and the group’s purpose has remained:
“to collect, exchange, preserve and publish genealogical records, related documents and information, to establish and maintain a genealogical library for the use of those interested in the subject, and to promote and encourage interest in genealogy in the State of Maine”
The Sandy River Valley Chapter of the MGS holds monthly meetings from September through June. We meet at 10:00 a.m. on the first Saturday of the month in the Farmington Public Library.
If the first Saturday of the month occurs prior to a Monday holiday, the library is closed, so the meeting is held on the second Saturday of the month.
Meetings are open to the public and we welcome beginning genealogists as well as experienced. Curious? Think maybe you might like to know more about genealogy? Attend a meeting. No membership in any particular organization is required. Everyone’s welcome!
Our genealogical research books and materials are housed in the Holman Room (second floor) of the Farmington Public Library. Library hours and directions are listed on their website.
It’s always best to call the library (207) 778-4312 when you are coming from a distance to ensure they are open.
