MGS Treasurer Sought
Maine Genealogical Society (MGS) TREASURER is an unpaid position on the MGS Board of Directors. Requirements: You must be able to keep a check register and balance the checking account, pay bills, make deposits, and submit paperwork to the MGS bookkeeper. You do not need to be a CPA or an accountant since MGS has a bookkeeper who maintains the books and prints financial reports as needed. The Treasurer receives all checks from the Membership Secretary and the Book Sales Director. The Treasurer verifies the checks according to the accompanying paperwork, and deposits checks into the Checking Accountant. All paperwork is then sent on to the bookkeeper to be entered into the bookkeeping system. The Treasurer pays all authorized bills, based on appropriate paperwork, and submits the bills to the bookkeeper to be entered into the bookkeeping system. As a member of the Board of Directors of MGS, the Treasurer is expected to attend all board meetings (usually 4 or 5 per year). The Treasurer is also a member of the Events Committee because it is important to know what bills will be coming in concerning the programs that MGS presents each year. Number of Hours Involved The overall time involved per year is less than 40 hours per year. During the membership renewal season, November to March, the Treasurer receives a packet of checks from the Membership Secretary three to four times per month (requiring a couple of hours per month). During the off-season (March to October) the Treasurer typically receives one or two small packets from the Membership Secretary (requiring about an hour a month). The Book Sales Director sends checks once a month, which requires about an hour a month. The Treasurer pays bills which mostly arrive during the time of the Spring Conference, Summer Fair and Fall Conference. Please send all resumes and questions to Clyde G. Berry, 5 Mar Val Terrace, C-2; Winslow, ME 04901 or email email@example.com
